A Generous Season
Tim Versteeg, DLRE
The First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio has been a participant in the Family Services of San Antonio’s Adopt a Family program at Christmastime for many years. Each year the church provides presents for a number of different families identified by the organization, filling wish lists of old and young.
Each year congregants are invited in late November to take a tag off our Giving Tree. Each tag has a wish list for one member of our adopted families. Congregants then bring in new, unwrapped presents which wrapped at our all church Wrapping Party a couple of weeks later. This year UUSAT provided gifts for 5 families: 20 people ranging in age from 3 months to 55years, 7 dogs and two cats! Our Wrapping Party took place this year on Sunday, December 7 at 9:30 in Fellowship Hall. About 40-50 congregants of all ages participated. YRE Committee member Oscar Solis organized a hot chocolate bar and delicious breakfast for the participants.

With so many hands helping, the wrapping took hardly any time at all! All the presents were delivered the following morning to the appreciative staff at Family Services.
This year our Giving Tree also had an additional option provided by the San Antonio Students for Peace to donate directly to a Palestinian family trying to flee war-torn Gaza.
Thanks to everyone who gave so generously to the Giving Tree this year!
