Last Sunday, June 8th we celebrated our annual Flower Communion service (102 years after Norbert Chapek introduced the ceremony to our faith in Prague Czechoslovakia in 1923.) This moving service in which congregants are asked to bring flowers and then invited to choose one to take home, symbolizes the beauty and uniqueness in each of us. This year, that spirit of celebration was heightened by a number of other moments of recognition throughout the service.
First off, our numerous religious education volunteers we each presented with a certificate of appreciation and a small gift (created by our RE assistant Elizabeth Granado). Building on this were heartfelt thank-yous to each of our part time Sunday Morning staff, including celebrating the 5 years of service that Alex Bush has given to our church.
Following the flower ceremony it was time for our Bridging Ceremony. This year Charlotte Blackwell bridged from High School to the Young Adult Group. The group of Young Adults in attendance welcomed her to this new stage of her life with open arms and hearts. Charlotte was further recognized as the winner of this year’s Wade Richmond Scholarship to help her with her post-secondary studies next year. One of Wade’s family members, Stephen Richmond, joined us for the service.
All in all, it was a joyful day and recognized some very important people in our community.
